Cobblestone Painting, Take One
We managed to get some attempts at painting cobblestone in. It looks okay, but I’m not completely satisfied with the results. I do think that the stamps will work exactly as they are now. The patterns look great when pressed into the foam itself, now we just need to make it look good after painting… and to find a good way of painting without taking up WAY too much time. After going through several different ideas for color schemes (brown grout with dark grey stones, light grout with dark gray stones, and several other combinations) I think we finally settled for a dark grey grout with lighter grey stones. I like the basic color schemes below, they just need to look less flat and more like individual stones.
So, here are all the pics:
Well, that’s our first attempt at painting the cobblestone. Neither of these were done with the best conditions, the meteor piece was stamped and painted over top of the texture spray and the the small block was using the original stamp instead of the new ones. However, I think they are a good start and with a little more practice we’ll have some awesome looking cobblestone.

that came out really cool… especially how there are natural cracks in the foam. Are you planning to paint it up more or keep it simple? It doesn’t look bad like this.
I’d consider this a rough draft. I definitely think it can look a lot better. I think the grout/stones need a little more contrast. It looks a bit flat, I think.
I do like the cracks for the meteor piece… that actually happened because of the textured paint underneath.
After stamping and base coat then dry brush, Use a dark ink,, It might make the “stone pop out more”
I dont think it could get much better anyway. It looks how it should.
