This issue caused the site to appear as if it had rolled back an entire year. This meant that any new content posted on the main page was missing, the downloads pages were old versions, many user galleries were missing, and the site may not have recognized your login info. Unfortunately, this also means that if you logged in yesterday within that period and saved a roster or uploaded photos to your gallery they were not saved to the current version of the site.

Fortunately everything should be fixed and back to normal now. If you find rosters or photos missing, you will have to re-upload or save them. I don’t expect there to be any other lingering issues from this, but if you do have any other issues with the site please contact us. Sorry for the inconvenience!

In more positive news, I have been playing some of the Warhammer: Invasion LCG and will be putting up a review soon. I may also put up a review of the Lord of the Rings LCG expansion sets as well. I have also been working on refining the flagstone technique. We have decided not to use the stamp and instead cut out the pattern and fill the grout with lightweight spackle for a more realistic look. I picked up a new hot cutting tool that works great for hand carving the flagstone as well. I will be putting up a full post on this new technique soon, but for now you can see the work in progress shot.

This time he’s put together a step-by-step painting guide for a Space Wolves Wolf Guard Battle Leader. This new painting guide turned out pretty awesome, just as with the previous guides. The guide comes complete with plenty of pictures of each step along the way, along with a description of how everything was done. I highly recommend checking out Sigur’s galleries as well as keeping an eye on his Tabletop Geeks page for any updates.

In other news, I am planning on posting a review for the new Lord of the Rings Living Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games that I picked up recently. The interesting thing is that this is a cooperative card based game that has you working together with friends (or just playing solo!) to complete various missions. I am also planning on picking up the Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game as well, and will post a review of that after I get to try it out. Warhammer: Invasion is a competitive card game set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe that has you competing to destroy your opponent’s keep while protecting your own.

Puppet Wars by Wyrd Games is also coming soon. I can’t wait to get my hands on this as well. I will definitely post up a review, and plenty of pictures, once this is released. For now, Wyrd is posting a lot of teasers in their Puppet Wars forum.

There is also the possibility of some upcoming exclusives related to some of the new Mordheim projects from Liber Malefic as well! Keep an eye out for all the new stuff coming soon!

Rules Manual!

I probably should have posted this sooner but there have been several Malifaux updates recently. First of all, for those who might not have heard the Malifaux Rules Manual and Malifaux Gaining Ground (Tournament) files have been posted up. These are available on Wyrd’s website and are also linked in our Malifaux Downloads page. These are both available as completely free pdf documents. The Rules Manual includes updated rules with better examples that should help clarify things a bit more. The Gaining Ground document offers up full rules and information on running a Malifaux tournament.

In addition, there have been several more updates to our Malifaux Downloads page. With the new rules updates comes a full set of updated Reference cards (courtesy of Ratty). The downloads page has grown significantly over the last year (and especially the last couple of months) and I highly recommend checking out all it has to offer. I really think we’ve got some great resources here and it continues to expand constantly, so keep checking back!

We’re only about level 5 now so we’re really just getting started. One of the guys in the group has decided to do a write-up every week about the campaign so I thought I would share those here.

Here are some of my favorite excerpts with commentary.

Our DM has put a lot of work into creating a new world for us. It’s a pretty interesting idea so far and I can’t wait to explore more of it!
“Our tale takes place in a massive walled city (described by the DM as “about the size of Connecticut”), which had been built up on an island over hundreds of years after its inhabitants fled their previous home. Ravaged by wayward magic, fire had engulfed their entire continent, and the only way they could escape was by boat. Because of this past, magic is heavily controlled in this city, but it isn’t entirely forbidden: it must either be used in self-defense, or in ways that benefit society. Any form of extra-planar magic, or any kind of “dark magic” is never allowed.”

I love getting creative with spells. Mage hand has plenty of uses.
“As the one with a club charges Belt, Svenn magehands a stake with a piece of rope tied on it (that was previously being used to tie down the boy), and trips the club barbarian.”

Oh the perils of being an adventurer…
“Covered in disgusting nastiness, the party returns to the Magistrate’s office, who promptly insists they visit a bath house first.  The entire bath house is cleared out, as the party smells like the foulest pit of hell.”

It’s amazing the number of uses you can get out of cantrips! Also, no need to kill everything if you’re clever enough.
“They barely take a step into the forest when they’re attacked by a small group of beast men.  Belt slows them down temporarily with a mighty roar (Intimidate check, modified 16), while Svenn manages to scare a few of them off by casting Ghost Sound.”

While over on the Wyrd Forums I happened across a bunch of really cool Malifaux Desktop Wallpapers. These aren’t really aides for the game or anything but I decided to put them up on the downloads page because they were buried away in the forums.

There are 3 Wallpapers per faction, one each for the original Masters of those factions. They come in both regular and widescreen sizes. I did not see any Wallpaper for the new Rising Powers characters unfortunately, but if I see any I will put them up.

The v2 stat cards have all of the latest errata and rules on them. This is a quick way to print out the latest cards if you’ve got the original versions of the stat cards. This is also great if you simply want to have print outs of your opponent’s cards so you can keep up with what their characters can do without needing to flip through the rulebook. The stat cards are available over on the Malifaux Downloads page right now!

In addition to releasing the stat cards in PDF form Wyrd has opened up a trade in program for your old stat cards. You can simply mail in your v1 stat cards along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and Wyrd will mail you the v2 stat cards for free! They’ll even take them if they are laminated. If you happen to have a local Malifaux Henchman you can also simply turn your cards into them and they will handle the replacement for you. If you are interested in replacement cards then check out the v2 Stat Card redemption program.

Malifaux Rules Manual

Finally, if you haven’t heard yet Wyrd is also releasing a Malifaux Rules Manual soon as well, both in PDF form and in book form. The Rules Manual book will include all of the rules, including the Rising Powers expansion, updated with all of the current errata and including new examples and explanations. The PDF version will include the same rules minus the Rising Powers expansion, giving everyone free access to the base game rules. This is due out in early 2011.

If you’ve been to the Tabletop Geeks member galleries then you have probably seen some of Sigur’s work. He has definitely done some very great miniatures. However, he’s done more than just paint some miniatures, he’s been putting up painting guides to go along with some of them as well! These guides are excellent and a great way to pick up some new painting techniques for yourself. I highly recommend checking out both Sigur’s site and the painting guide

This latest painting guide shows off techniques used by Sigur to paint up Ultramarines Captain Sicarius. The guide takes you from start to finish with plenty of pictures along the way! While this guide is showing off one specific miniature a lot of the techniques used, especially the shading, can be applied just about anywhere. It ends with a beautifully painted miniature. Don’t take my word for here, check out these pictures of the finished model.

Thanks to a reader/fan of Tabletop Geeks we now have the Dark Elves up on the Roster Builder (listed with the Unofficial warbands). I’m still looking to get the Roster Builder updated even more, specifically with campaign support but it’s going to take some time. Keep checking back and I’ll keep you guys updated.

If there are any warbands you would like to see up on the Roster Builder, even modified versions of existing warbands, or if you have any suggestions or requests then please feel free to contact us. I am willing to host just about any warband that people want. The files for this are very simple to put together so I can show anyone how to type one up and then I’ll upload it to the site for you.

Maybe it’s just because I’m crazy about laminating everything though. I laminate rosters, Malifaux character cards, reference sheets… anything that I can. I like to make sure my stuff is preserved. It’s also nice to use dry erase markers for tracking things on laminated cards or rosters.

If you are like me then you’ll like this deal. Right now Amazon has a Laminator on sale for only $16.99! This is the same Laminator that I have for myself. It works great and it’s really easy to use. I can definitely recommend picking this up, especially at that price!

In other news, here is something else that I’m pretty excited about. We have a logo ready to go! It was custom made for us by my girlfriend. Some of you may have already seen it on our twitter or facebook pages. It’s going to be worked into the site soon, but here’s a preview of the logo if you are interested.

That’s all for now. I’m hoping to get some miniatures painted soon as I still need to finish all my Resurrectionists, especially since I now have a full Nicodem crew as well! I’m also hoping to get some work done on the table (like getting it painted) sometime in the near future. I’ll make sure to get pics up on my user site as soon as I get this stuff done.

There are not only new downloads up but the layout has been redesigned as well! Ratty and Cenotaph of the official Wyrd forums have been a huge help in making the downloads page awesome.The first thing you’ll notice is that the downloads page has been given an overhaul in layout to (hopefully) make it easier to navigate. When there were only a few downloads the old layout worked great, but as the downloads section as grown it got harder and harder to read. A special thanks to Ratty for coming up with the new layout.

The other thing you’ll probably notice is the new Rising Powers full reference sheet. In my last post about the Malifaux Downloads page I asked for someone to step up to the challenge of updating the reference sheets with all of the errata and Rising Powers rules. Cenotaph and Ratty stepped up to work on an amazing new reference sheet together. I absolutely love this reference sheet as it not only has everything I need but has it in a very easy to read layout.

Finally, it was suggested recently that I should have a way to mark the downloads as updated since some of these downloads have gone through multiple versions. I’m looking into the best way to set it up so that it’s obvious when it’s been updated without cluttering up the page. I’ve got a test up now if you hover over the Rising Powers full reference sheet. Any feedback is appreciated! Alternately, if you follow us on twitter I’ll try and let everyone know when stuff is updated.
