First Foamcore Building – Work In Progress

Building!

Building!

I finally got around to working on foamcore buildings! In a few hours last night I was able to get the first story of a simple building put together using foamcore, matchsticks, and popsicle sticks. I still need to add some stuff to it, including some framing, and it will need to be painted of course. I was going to use some of the new cardstock printouts as base templates for my building, but after fiddling with getting them printed out I decided I would just try it by making my own pattern. I’m pleased with the progress I made so far, though the popsicle sticks didn’t want to cooperate last night.

New downloads available!

Posted in Terrain on May 26th, 2009 by Svenn

I’ve added a second downloads page for downloads related to terrain. The original downloads page will contain any Mordheim rules related items, while this new page will contain things such as cardstock printouts. I have uploaded scans of all of the Mordheim box and Blood in the Streets box buildings already. You can print these directly to cardstock, assemble, and use as is… or you can use them as templates for creating your own buildings. I plan on using them as templates for creating some foamcore buildings very soon. Once I get one of those done I’ll put up pictures and a small how-to for those interested. Enjoy!

Svenn's High Elves

Tyrion

Tyrion

I finally got around to taking pictures of my Warhammer Fantasy High Elf Army. When I first got into Games Workshop games 15 or so years ago it was the High Elves out of the old Warhammer Fantasy Battles box set that I started with. I’ve got a full unit of 20 Spearmen, 8 Archers, Prince Tyrion, and a bolt thrower (along with 1 of the 2 units accompanying it) painted up. Keep in mind that these were all painted probably 8 or more years ago, and were my first attempts at painting. I’ve never been a very strong painter, but this just shows how bad I was when I first started. If you compare this to the Possessed Warband I posted up before you will see that I’ve made quite an improvement. The bases on the elves are done, but the light green I did underneath of the flock doesn’t look so great. I’m not incredibly happy with the colors I used either. I think I also used cheap paints, which is noticeable in a few spots (especially in a side view of Prince Tyrion’s horse where there are dark and light patches of blue). You’ll have to excuse the dust around, these things have been sitting on a shelf for years untouched. Eventually I’d like to get back and paint some more Elves, though they may end up being more suited towards some sort of Mordheim Elven Warband. Feel free to leave any comments about how bad I was when I first started. Enjoy!

Detail Sculpting (Sacks)

Sacks!

Sacks!

Cobblestone isn’t the only thing that we’ve been working on. We’ve also spent a little bit of time putting together some of the smaller details. One of the things that we’ve done so far is played around with making some small detail objects with sculpey. We have been thinking of creating things such as crates, barrels, ladders, and other similar items out of sculpey and possibly casting them to a mold. My girlfriend (Hadesdream, she might post on here at some point) sculpted us some really cool sacks out of sculpey the other day. These are not finished yet… they still need to be painted. I think they look awesome and I can’t wait to get them painted and put onto some terrain.

Cobblestone Painting, Take One

A small block with the old stamp pattern, painted up

A small block with the old stamp pattern, painted up

We managed to get some attempts at painting cobblestone in. It looks okay, but I’m not completely satisfied with the results. I do think that the stamps will work exactly as they are now. The patterns look great when pressed into the foam itself, now we just need to make it look good after painting… and to find a good way of painting without taking up WAY too much time. After going through several different ideas for color schemes (brown grout with dark grey stones, light grout with dark gray stones, and several other combinations) I think we finally settled for a dark grey grout with lighter grey stones. I like the basic color schemes below, they just need to look less flat and more like individual stones.

First Battle Report

Best roll of the game!!

Best roll of the game!!

Well, I would consider the first Mordheim game on our new table a success. We had five people show up, three of which had played Mordheim before and two who were new to Games Workshop games completely. It was a beautiful day so we pulled the table out of Tewfik’s garage and put it under some cover outside. We spent about 6 or 7 hours and managed to finish one full game. We did spend a few hours training the new people and letting them play a few rounds of a game so they knew what was going on before we started the big game. Since we didn’t have any finished terrain pieces we decided to play on the bare table and not actually use the blocks. We just used the cardboard houses and other random bits that we had, so it’s not much to look at right now.

My girlfriend, who was one of the people new to Games Workshop games, also made us a Mordheim cake, a ruined house on some cobblestone, in celebration of the first event on the new table. Here are some pics of the cake:

Tewfik's Skaven Warband

Posted in Miniatures on May 4th, 2009 by tewfik

Sorry that i have been slacking on the Picture taking/cropping and posting… BUT!!

I finally got around to taking pictures of my Skaven to show what Svenn gets to deal with.

These models were painted about 6 years ago or so, some still are not complete others are complete and could use some ‘fixing’ but will most likely stay the way they are because i enjoy seeing the phases that my painting skill has gone through over the years.

Mordheim Downloads

Posted in Terrain on May 2nd, 2009 by Svenn

After noticing that it was pretty hard to find some of the Mordheim magazines online, I decided to host them on our site. Right now we’ve got most of the Town Cryers, the Mordheim Annual, Empire in Flames, and the Encampments. If you know of any other files, let us know so we can put them up as well. The downloads link is over on the sidebar on the right side.
